Life is but a steam

Inspired by legacy, culture, and community, The Ebba Sparre Sauna Collective is a temporary sauna experience dreamed up by Scout. Now in its second season, the Collective is again partnering with the American Swedish Historical Museum in FDR Park, Philadelphia, inviting guests to discover the art and ritual of the Nordic sauna tradition.

Private cedar barrels are available for solo sessions or groups of up to four. Whether you are here to sweat out the stress, connect with friends, or simply bask in a story for the ages, we hope you will leave renewed and inspired. Book yours now!

A nod to a Queen

Known for her intellect, defiance, and individuality, Queen Christina of Sweden (1626–1689) was anything but ordinary. By her teens, she had mastered eight languages and founded the world’s oldest continuously running newspaper. Local Philadelphia names like Queen Village and Swedesboro nod to her enduring influence.

At 28, she shocked Sweden by abdicating the throne, declaring, “It takes more courage to marry than to go to war.” Her refusal to conform—and her rumored romance with her friend and confidante Ebba Sparre—cemented her legend.

The Ebba Sparre Sauna Collective channels Christina’s unapologetic spirit, celebrating resilience, individuality, and the art of living boldly.

Come sweat it out like the queen who redefined royalty—because history is hotter than you think.🔥

The sauna experience

Saunas have long been central to the wellness traditions of cultures worldwide, from Finnish saunas to Native American sweat lodges and Turkish hammams. The tradition stretches back almost 10,000 years – the earliest examples of sauna culture are from 7,000 BC.

Sauna spaces are more than just a way to relax—they’re a celebration of community, ritual, and renewal. Our temporary sauna embraces this rich heritage while inviting you to connect, recharge, and enjoy the experience together. The tradition continues to be strong in Nordic countries; you can learn more about Swedish culture and history after you sauna with your free admission to the museum.

Feel free to join with friends; saunas are naturally social spaces. While conversation is welcome, please use respectful tones to ensure everyone can enjoy their time.

Let the heat work its magic, enjoy the rhythm of sweating and cooling, and embrace this global tradition of wellness and connection.

By booking a session, you agree to the
rules and policies. All guests will sign a waiver upon arrival.
